The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) was founded in 1950 and is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is an organization which shows women the benefits of taking the desirable career path of becoming an engineer.  SWE is here to support women in becoming engineers and succeeding and advancing within their given careers.  SWE is also here to recognize women for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.   

SWE Mission (Adopted in 1986)

SWE Objectives (Adopted in 1950)

  • Inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the general public, of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them.
  • Assist women in readying themselves for a return to active work after temporary retirement.
  • Serve as a center of information on women in engineering.
  • Encourage women engineers to attain high levels of education and professional achievement.
